I joined a new gym!

A new gym opened up between my apartment and my work. They had a deal where its only $29/month. Classes are included and they offer extensive hours. Plus all of my friends joined too, so I will be held more accountable.

One of the classes I've tried out is Les Mills' Body Pump

BODYPUMP™ is the original barbell class that strengthens your entire body. This 60-minute workout challenges all your major muscle groups by using the best weight-room exercises like squats, presses, lifts and curls. Some of the girls from the Weight Watchers boards I email with recommended I use little-to-no weights for my first time. I listened, and I'm glad I did. I could barely move the next two days! I had a lot of fun taking it tho. It was a lot harder than I thought. I'm hoping to take this class on a regular basis, but with my work schedules its hard sometimes.

I'm looking at doing the Half Marathon in Des Moines on October 17th, which is only 72 days away! I have been training, but nothing like I should be. Since its my first half, my goal is to finish. Here is the route-lots of bathrooms, first-aid stations, and scenery.

I have a solid two months of training left, so hopefully I can build up some endurance. I figure if I walk the whole thing at a 20 minute mile, it will only take 4 1/2 hours....so as long as I'm not last, I'll be happy :)

Any stretching, eating, or just good-ol tips you can throw out out there for a half marathon virgin?

  1. You will love Body Pump. I do that at the YMCA on my lunch hour and it is awesome!! I have lost so many inches and toned down because of that class. I'm super excited for you!! Have you taken the class yet?? Less weight is better for the first week or two and then you can move up. Warning: you will not be able to walk or move normal for at least 3 days after your first class. It totally kicks your butt but in a good way! Have fun and take as many classes as you can. Its so worth it!

  2. I did try it! I had to work extra hours at my bar job, so I've only taken one class but I really enjoyed it. I'm excited to see the results once I do buckle down and stick with it!

  3. The gym I'm trying out, and will be joining, just started offering Bodypump and it was highly recommended, so I figured I'd give it a try soon. Little to no weight at first??

  4. For sure. I used the smallest weight as possible, and there were a few there that had no weights on the bars. It was hard to walk/move the first couple days. I really loved the class tho!

  5. Haha!! I just did this class today after not doing it for 2 weeks. I know I'm going to have a hard time moving tomorrow. I need to make sure I'm going at least 2x a week. I was doing other things in the last 2 weeks just not going to that class. It does make a really big difference in your body so make sure you go and try for at least 2x a week!
